England beat Bangladesh by 3 wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday. Dawid Malan’s century was the highlight of the match as he scored 103 off just 88 balls to help England chase down a target of 266 with two balls to spare.

England won the toss and elected to field first. Bangladesh got off to a good start with Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das putting on a partnership of 81 runs for the first wicket. Tamim was the first to go, dismissed by Adil Rashid for a well-made 44. Liton Das followed soon after, dismissed for a well-made 41.

Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahim then put on a partnership of 64 runs for the third wicket. Sarkar was dismissed for a well-made 41, while Rahim went on to score a brilliant century, his first in ODIs. He was eventually dismissed for a well-made 103 off just 97 balls.

Bangladesh’s innings ended on 265/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Adil Rashid was the pick of the bowlers for England, picking up 3 wickets for just 44 runs in his 10 overs.

In reply, England got off to a good start with Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow putting on a partnership of 64 runs for the first wicket. Roy was the first to go, dismissed for a well-made 33. Bairstow followed soon after, dismissed for a well-made 37.

England were in a spot of bother at 97/3, but Dawid Malan and Eoin Morgan then put on a partnership of 109 runs for the fourth wicket. Malan was the first to go, dismissed for a well-made 103 off just 88 balls. Morgan followed soon after, dismissed for a well-made 44.

England were in a spot of bother at 212/5, but Sam Billings and Adil Rashid then put on a partnership of 44 runs for the sixth wicket. Billings was the first to go, dismissed for a well-made 24. Rashid then held his nerve and saw England home with an unbeaten 15 off just 11 balls.

England eventually chased down the target of 266 with two balls to spare, winning the match by 3 wickets. Dawid Malan was the star of the show for England, scoring a brilliant century to help his side chase down the target.

The second ODI of the three-match series will be played on Sunday at the same venue. England will be looking to take an unassailable lead in the series, while Bangladesh will be looking to level the series.
