Swiggy and Zomato, two of India’s leading food delivery services, have sought clarification from the Delhi government on its recent order banning bike-taxis in the city.
The Delhi government had recently issued an order banning bike-taxis in the city, citing safety concerns. The order stated that bike-taxis were not allowed to operate in the city, and that any violation of the order would be punishable under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Swiggy and Zomato have now sought clarification from the Delhi government on the order. In a joint statement, the two companies said that they were “surprised” by the order and that they had not been consulted before the order was issued.
The statement further said that the two companies had been operating bike-taxis in the city for the past few years and that they had taken all necessary safety precautions to ensure the safety of their riders and customers. The statement also said that the two companies had been working with the Delhi government to ensure that the bike-taxi services were operated in a safe and responsible manner.
The statement further said that the two companies had been in discussions with the Delhi government to find a way to ensure the safety of their riders and customers while also allowing bike-taxis to operate in the city. The statement said that the two companies had proposed several measures to the government, including the installation of GPS tracking systems on all bike-taxis, the introduction of a mandatory helmet rule for riders, and the introduction of a mandatory insurance policy for riders.
The statement concluded by saying that the two companies were seeking clarification from the Delhi government on the order and that they were hopeful that the government would take into consideration their proposals and allow bike-taxis to operate in the city in a safe and responsible manner.
The Delhi government has yet to respond to the statement from Swiggy and Zomato. However, the government has said that it is open to considering the proposals put forward by the two companies. It remains to be seen if the government will allow bike-taxis to operate in the city in the near future.
